  6. Waste or resource: barriers to a circular economy

    The Task Force Herijking Afvalstoffen chaired by Winnie Sorgdrager has identified obstacles that governments and companies are experiencing on their way to a circular economy. In order to be able to deal with scarce resources and to limit waste production and environmental impact, legislation and regulations often still pose a barrier. The report was commissioned by the Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management and the Association of Dutch Water Authorities. State Secretary Stientje van Veldhoven who received the report on behalf of the Dutch cabinet: “The Netherlands will be fully circular in 2050. That is the transition that we are supporting together. In order to give wings to this transition, waste legislation and regulations must also be in order. The report helps to find those places where the rules are still tight. "
