    AKZO zet in op algenolie

    Door samenwerking met het Amerikaanse Solazyme en het Nederlandse Photanol probeert AKZO zijn petrochemische grondstoffen te vervangen door bijvoorbeeld algenolie. Solazyme werkt voor de productie van algenolie nauw samen met ADM en Bunge.

    WHO European Food and Nutrition Action Plan 2015 – 2020 adopted

    On the 18th September 2014 the WHO Regional Office for Europe adopted the WHO European Food and Nutrition Action Plan 2015 – 2020. The goal of the Action Plan is to avoid premature deaths and significantly reduce the burden of preventable diet-related noncommunicable diseases, obesity and all other forms of malnutrition still prevalent in the WHO European Region.

    In the past few years, oilseeds have occasionally been found to be contaminated with dioxins and dioxin-like PCBs. Therefore, the European Commision introduces action levels for dioxins and dioxin-like PCBs in oilseeds intended for human consumption.

    Warenwetregeling allergeneninformatie niet-voorverpakte levensmiddelen gepubliceerd

    Vanaf 13 december 2014 zijn ondernemers, zoals cafetariahouders, verplicht om in hun zaak allergeneninformatie beschikbaar te hebben over niet-voorverpakte levensmiddelen die te koop worden aangeboden. Dit is vastgelegd in de recent gepubliceerde Warenwetregeling allergeneninformatie niet-voorverpakte levensmiddelen.

    New analysis of the effects of low-carbohydrate and low-fat diets

    A recently published study shows that a low-carbohydrate diet induced greater weight loss and reductions in cardiovascular risk factors at 12 months than a low-fat diet. Compared with a low-fat diet, a low-carbohydrate diet resulted in greater improvements in body composition, HDL cholesterol level, ratio of total/ HDL cholesterol and triglyceride level. The low-fat group lost about 1,8 kilogram, whereas the low-carb group’s average weight loss was almost 5,3 kilogram. Participants in the two groups were eating about the same amount of calories. One of the limitations of the study is the lack of CVD clinical end points.

  10. MVO promotes Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) in countries of origin

    MVO recently set up a brochure on Pesticide Management designed for farmers and storage companies in South-America, Central and Eastern Europe. This GAP initiative is supported by the Royal Dutch Grain and Feed Trade Association (het Comité), COCERAL, UNISTOCK and FEDIOL.
