MVO reactie op COEN update van Nutri Score algoritme

MVO would like to thank the Scientific Committee of the Nutri-Score (ScC) for their efforts to review the
Nutri-Score algorithm. On behalf of the Netherlands Oils and Fats Industry, we have read the ‘Update
report’ with great interest and examined the proposed adjustments and their impact on the product group
‘added fats’. MVO welcomes the improvements that have been made in the algorithm as regards the
product group oils, fats and fat spreads. However hardly any of these products that are part of the Wheel
of Five score a ‘B’ and still there is little discrimination within the product group as many products score
the same ‘C‘. Thus, the updated algorithm of the Nutri-Score does not match the ‘Wheel of Five’, nor do
they reflect the ‘Dutch Dietary Guidelines 2015’ or (inter)national scientific consensus about health effects
of fatty acids. Therefore, we call on the authorities to make further improvements before accepting the
Nutri-Score in the Netherlands. For the credibility of the logo and in the interest of the public health, a good
alignment with dietary guidelines is absolutely essential. Without this, an informative logo will be more
beneficial than an evaluative logo.
