Actionable perspectives and food security in times of geopolitical uncertainty
The world around us is changing rapidly. Geopolitical tensions, digital and physical threats, and turbulent trade developments are on the rise. In addition, stricter legislation on sustainability and food safety, together with the impact of climate change, are placing extra pressure on our oils and fats supply chain, both nationally and internationally. These developments call for increased awareness, strengthened collaboration, and targeted action from government, business, and societal partners.
During the afternoon, we will bring our members and stakeholders up to date on the current debate regarding the impact on our oils and fats chain, and inform you about the various concrete steps being taken to enhance the resilience of our supply chains.
Pieter Cobelens, strategic advisor and retired Dutch Major-General, will outline the current geopolitical reality, hybrid threats, and the potential consequences for our food supply. With energy and a clear, honest style, he emphasises the urgency of the situation and makes a compelling call to business to prepare in time for possible disruptions.
"As an individual, you can truly make a difference. You just need to have the courage to act."
Marten van den Berg, Director-General for Agro at the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, Food Security and Nature (LVVN), will discuss the ministry’s policy approach and ongoing initiatives. Topics will include cybersecurity monitoring, the National Food Security Crisis Plan, the Critical Entities Regulation (CER), the importance of international trade agreements such as Mercosur and CEPA, and the new Agro Trade Action Plan: Safe, Resilient and Sustainable (developed in collaboration with IDH, VNO-NCW, and the Ministries of LVVN and Foreign Affairs).
In addition to in-depth content, the event offers ample opportunity to engage in conversation, share experiences, and network. We look forward to welcoming you to an afternoon focused on insight, urgency, and actionable perspectives.
